Coming up this weekend - Oktoberfest at the Army Heritage & Education Center. The third annual Carlisle Oktoberfest is scheduled for this Saturday, Oct. 15, from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Admission and parking are free to this all-day, family-oriented event celebrating the culture of Germany. The fest will be held rain or shine. Oktoberfest is sponsored by Carlisle Barracks. Many of the residents there have served at Army posts in Germany - so they really know about the German festival! Some activities include a bratwurst-eating contest, a polka dance demonstration, a Bavarian costume contest, tethered hot air balloon rides, an afternoon soccer game and a performance by the Happy Wanderers, a traditional German oompha band. There will also be a 5K Volksmarch through the AHEC Army Heritage Trail, through the scenic Carlisle Barracks golf course and onto the post.
A full day of activities is scheduled at the 'Celebrate the Book ' Festival at the Carlisle Expo Center on Saturday, October 22. Meet author David Baldacci, author of the Camel Club series, Absolute Power & Deliver Us From Evil. He will speak at 10am and will follow with a book signing. Also on October 22, you can experience Carlisle during the Confederate Invasion of 1863 on a walking with the Cumberland County Historical Society. Mention "Books & Civil War" when you make your reservation to receive a copy of Michael Shaara's The Killer Angels.
The leaves are changing here in the Cumberland Valley so it's a great time for your fall getaway! Check availability and make your reservation at Pheasant Field Bed & Breakfast now.
