Gettysburg Remembrance Day

Today is the anniversary of the Gettysburg Address. So many of us had to memorize that famous "little speech" that President Lincoln gave at the cemetery of the fallen from that fateful battle: "Four score and seven years ago...".

Gettysburg has events scheduled all weekend long and we still have a few guest rooms open for this weekend. Stay at Pheasant Field Bed & Breakfast (slightly away from the crowds) and remember the events of that time:

November 19 - 146th Anniversary of the Gettysburg Address An annual

observation with brief memorial services in the Soldiers' National Cemetery at 9:45 a.m. Sponsored by the Lincoln Fellowship of Pennsylvania, Gettysburg National Military Park, and the Civil War Institute at Gettysburg College.

November 21 - Remembrance Day Parade and Ceremonies An annual event held in conjunction with the Gettysburg Address anniversary. A parade of Civil War living history groups begins at 1:00 p.m. Sponsored by the Sons of Union Veterans of the Civil War.

November 21 - Special tour of the Seminary Cupola and Schmucker Hall (Old Dorm), sponsored by the Adams County Historical Society and the Seminary Ridge Historic Preservation Foundation. For tickets, call 717-334-4723.

November 21 - 7 th Annual Remembrance Illumination, Soldiers' National

Cemetery Sponsored by the Gettysburg Foundation. Luminary candles will be placed on each Civil War grave as a testament to the sacrifices made here in 1863. For information contact the Foundation at (717) 338-1243.

This Saturday in Gettysburg, more people will be dressed in period clothing than ragular street clothes! Come with your civil war era costumes and join the commemoration!
